An international PwC team consisting of senior M&A and BRS experts acted as exclusive financial adviser to an international consortium of banks on the sale of the Proton Therapy Center (PTC) in Essen to Westdeutsches Protonentherapiezentrum Essen gGmbH (WPE), a subsidiary of the University Hospital of Essen (UK Essen) and operator of the PTC. WPE will continue on as owner as well as operator of the PTC. Ion Beam Applications S.A. (IBA) will maintain the site at the highest standard possible.
The team advised the noteholders on their options and subsequently supported the implementation of a solution to secure the provision of this market leading treatment to cancer patients in the region.
The PTC is a provider of proton beam therapy to cancer patients. Proton beam therapy is a type of external-beam radiation treatment that uses protons to treat cancer. Advantages of the proton beam therapy are (amongst others) reduced collateral effects (less damage of healthy tissue, less cancer incidences from radiation).
A combined PwC M&A and BRS team in Germany and the United Kingdom acted as exclusive financial adviser to the (inter)national consortium of noteholders. PwC also provided Tax Advice and Financial Modelling Services (supported by experts from the PwC F&R team) to the noteholders.
PwC employs nearly 1.000 M&A professionals all over the world, realizing approximately 300 successful transactions per year.
