PwC at the IAA MOBILITY 2023

What moves us? We explored this question together with you – in the Smart Mobility Space powered by PwC.

On the way to sustainable and innovative mobility

PwC ist Cooperation Partner der IAA MOBILITY 2023

We need to talk!

A lot has happened since the IAA MOBILITY 2021. We are seeing the breakthrough of electromobility and with it China’s rise to become the second largest car exporter. We are witnessing how mobility models are developing into ecosystems and how the actual transport function is taking a back seat. Artificial intelligence and smart data are set to fundamentally change our mobility. At the same time, we as a society are engaged in an emotional debate about the future role of the car and the need for a sustainable mobility mix. Mobility moves us like never before.

At PwC, together with our clients, we develop a wide range of solutions to shape the transformation to sustainable mobility. Through this collaboration, we know how important it is to ask the right questions. That's what we did this year at the IAA MOBILITY under the motto “What moves us?”. PwC Germany was once again an official cooperation partner of the fair in order to rethink mobility together with you – and make the concepts of tomorrow tangible.

Together with you we established a real dialogue – in the Smart Mobility Space powered by PwC, together with our Global Alliance partner Microsoft, the University of St.Gallen and Strategy&.

You couldn’t attend, but would still like to take a look at our programme? The recordings are available thorugh the agenda.

Our partners in the Smart Mobility Space:

PwC @ IAA MOBILITY 2023

What moves you? What moves us? We don't have all the answers yet. But we had a place to discuss the most pressing questions with you and our experts: The Smart Mobility Space powered by PwC was one of the five IAA stages and the central dialogue area for smart mobility. Here you had space for exchange and inspiration on all issues relating to the mobility of the future - together with our Global Alliance partner Microsoft, the University of St.Gallen and Strategy&!

Smart Mobility Space powered by PwC

Smart mobility is so much more than the electrification of the drive. The transformation to smart mobility means rethinking mobility from scratch. With an open mind, boldly and inclusively. New technologies, smart data and artificial intelligence are changing the nature of individual and public mobility and the boundaries between forms of mobility are becoming blurred – whether in urban or rural areas.

Value creation, business models and role assignments are also evolving. Classic market boundaries are breaking down. From the automotive industry to the energy economy and the public sector, through to transport and logistics. Which concepts will not just transport us in future, but bring us forwards?

We have created a dedicated space to discuss these questions and concepts: The Smart Mobility Space powered by PwC was the central dialogue area for smart mobility in Hall B3. From 4 to 8 September 2023, leading experts from various disciplines came together here. Thank you for joining and contributing to an exciting dialogue with our speaker community of 80 forward-thinkers from industry, science and the public sector. The transformation to the mobility of tomorrow can only succeed together with the people involved – with you.

You can find recordings of our panels in the programme.

Global Alliance partner Microsoft

The automotive and mobility industry is evolving as a result of new technology-driven trends such as diverse mobility, autonomous driving, electrification and connectivity. This paradigm shift in the industry can be summarised by the acronym CASE: Connected, Autonomous, Shared, Electrified.

This transition towards Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) puts the user at the centre of the action. It forces traditional car manufacturers to compete on several fronts with new market entrants such as mobility providers, tech companies and specialist OEMs, thus increasing the complexity of the competitive landscape.

The industry is undergoing rapid digitisation and integrating AI and Generative AI (GenAI) into its entire process ecosystem: from product design, development, production and the supply chain to customer communication and experience.

A comprehensive and successful transformation of your company is only possible with the right technology partner at your side. Through the combination of our PwC expertise with the tools of our Global Alliance partner Microsoft we can also effectively support your company in its transformation. With the help of Microsoft technologies and platforms, we work together to develop individual solutions to position your company sustainably for the future and support you in overcoming the current challenges.

In our shared Smart Mobility Space at the IAA MOBILITY 2023, we engaged in dialogue on topics such as CASE, AI, smart manufacturing and software transformation.

University of St.Gallen

PwC Germany and the Institute for Mobility at the University of St.Gallen have worked together on the future of our mobility for years. In autumn 2022, we founded the Lab for Smart Mobility. The new think tank researches networked and sustainable mobility models of the future and examines their impact on people’s mobility behaviour. In addition, the researchers deal with the question of where the future mobility industry will be based and what solutions it will have to offer.

The Lab is headed by Prof. Dr. Andreas Herrmann, among others, who shared his view on tomorrow’s sustainable mobility in several panel discussions on the joint dialogue stage of the Smart Mobility Space. In a “Research Corner”, integrated into the Smart Mobility Space, doctoral students from the University of St.Gallen also presented their doctoral theses on the mobility of tomorrow.

Furthermore, at the IAA MOBILITY 2023 we provided information about the joint activities of PwC Germany and the University of St.Gallen for start-ups. The executive programme “CAS Smart Mobility Management – driven by SMART Data & SMART Cities” at the University of St.Gallen is intended as a fitness programme for the mobility revolution. Only if all stakeholders, public and private organisations, develop new mobility ecosystems together can the ongoing transformation succeed.

IAA MOBILITY 2023

Mobility is far more than just the transport we use to get around every day. It is a product, a service, an ecosystem – and a subject for social debate and conflict.

The world’s biggest and most important mobility event offers manufacturers, suppliers, tech companies, service providers and start-ups many opportunities to present themselves and their services to a broad international B2B and B2C audience. And it wants to be a venue for redefining and negotiating the role of mobility.

The IAA MOBILITY is a motor and initiator for solutions for the mobility of the future. It works as a triad:

  • On the trade fair grounds: IAA Summit and IAA Conference
Ground-breaking concepts and developments from leading international companies. Over 500 visionaries and decision-makers on three stages. This is also where you will find the Smart Mobility Space – powered by PwC.
    5 to 8 September 2023
  • Munich city centre: IAA Open Space and IAA Experience
The mobility of tomorrow at the most prominent locations in the city. Festival grounds, product showrooms, test tracks and other highlights.
    5 to 10 September 2023
  • Between the trade fair grounds and the city: Blue Lane
Temporary environmental lane as a traffic trial.

PwC Crowd Management Platform

The PwC Crowd Management Platform supported the IAA MOBILITY 2023 by introducing efficient and user-friendly crowd management measures. As an official cooperation partner of the fair in collaboration with the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA e.V.), we have got the opportunity to integrate our software module into the official IAA MOBILITY app. We collected the movement data of the fair visitors in compliance with data protection regulations and evaluated them centrally in meaningful visualisations on our platform dashboard. This way, we not only supported the smooth running of the event but also gained valuable insights into the mobility behaviour of Munich during the IAA MOBILITY 2023.

The implementation of the PwC Crowd Management Platform, including the technical integration of the Software Development Kit (SDK), ensured continuous project management of the entire fair with the use of a software-as-a-service product. Our crowd management analyses focus on topics that are essential for the success of the IAA MOBILITY 2023.

With the help of sensor data from visitors' smartphones, the platform generates a comprehensive picture of crowd behaviour. It enables real-time analysis and evaluation of movement paths, infrastructure use and potential bottlenecks. The crowd management software is supported by an integrated artificial intelligence that provides real-time information on deviations and trends. We focused our attention specifically on mobility behaviour during the fair to gain crucial insights for mobility solutions.

We are thankful for the dialogue with you and our experts at the IAA MOBILITY 2023 and happy we could present our PwC Crowd Management Platform, which not only ensured a smooth and safer fair experience, but also provided valuable insights for future-proof mobility.
