Frankfurt am Main, 7 March 2023

Auditing and consulting firm PwC Germany is investing in software producer Simplifier AG. Together with an equal investment by Possehl Digital GmbH, PwC Germany is taking a minority stake in Simplifier’s growth financing through its own investment company, PwC Holdings Germany GmbH. Simplifier develops and operates a low-code platform which enables drag-and-drop configuration of individual business applications, helping to drive user-friendly digital transformation of business processes. One of its strengths is its ease of integration into IT systems. Users can thus build complex business and IoT apps, even without programming knowledge.

Digital transformation of business processes made easy

“Digital transformation of business processes is one of the most urgent tasks facing industrial companies. It requires skilled workers, but they are rare. So solutions like this one from Simplifier are all the more important, because even users who lack in-depth programming knowledge can use them to digitalise business processes and develop apps.”

Jovana Walter, Investment Principal at PwC Holdings Germany GmbH

“Trust, respect and mutual appreciation are among our most important values when dealing with our customers, business partners and employees. We also share these values and the clear goal of successfully shaping digital change with PwC Germany and Possehl. We are very pleased about this partnership and we feel certain that we have set the right course for our growth strategy to become Europe’s leading low-code provider, in order to give our customers even better support in their digital transformation projects in the future.”

Reza Etemadian, CEO and co-founder of Simplifier AG

“The Simplifier approach won us over. We are looking for solutions that are suitable for medium-sized companies, both for the Possehl Group and for medium-sized companies in general, and with Simplifier we can now offer the right building block for digital transformation.”

Christoph Hass, Investment Director at Possehl Digital GmbH with joint responsibility for digital transformation in the Possehl Group

Short development cycles at significantly reduced costs

Low-code platforms like Simplifier allow software applications to be developed using graphical tools instead of traditional text-based programming languages. This allows apps to be developed and released much more quickly – with lower costs for project planning, employee training and the actual development process. Low-code promotes effective collaboration between different departments in real time. It also enables specialist divisions to be involved in developing apps in addition to IT specialists. These advantages make low-code technology essential for ensuring digital transformation and securing companies’ ability to innovate.

PwC is a partner for industrial innovation

The companies already in PwC Holdings Germany GmbH’s portfolio specialise in AI, data on manual processes and human movements, and machine and asset connectivity. With Simplifier, PwC Germany is expanding its capabilities for digital transformation of business processes and integration of new apps, mobile devices and wearables into existing IT landscapes.

PwC Germany’s investment in Simplifier AG is the firm’s fifth investment in an IIoT growth company in the last twelve months. This highlights PwC’s position as a growth investor and a joint innovator for industrial digital transformation in Germany and Europe as a whole. PwC’s aim is to build up an investment portfolio to form part of a growing IIoT ecosystem of innovative tech companies, industry experts, manufacturers and industrial corporations.

“We believe it is absolutely necessary to break down existing barriers to communication between different parties, wherever they exist. Our goal is for everyone involved in the digital transformation of industry to exchange ideas about upcoming challenges openly, together, and in the spirit of partnership, and thus drive digital transformation forwards. Because it is clear to us that we can only succeed in transformation if we work together.”

Matthias Odrobina, Managing Director of PwC Holdings Germany GmbH
